Strategic Mentoring:
Not everyone who works with me is in crisis.
Some people come because they’re building something ambitious, a company, a body of work, a public life, and they want to think it through with someone who understands both the psychology and the pressure involved.
This isn’t therapy. It isn’t traditional business coaching either. It’s a psychologically informed thinking partnership.
Here’s what I’ve learned, both from building a company myself and from years of sitting with founders, leaders and creatives: our work is never separate from who we are. Building something meaningful will inevitably bring you face to face with your own identity, your ambition, your perfectionism, your fear of failure, your relationships, your sense of self.
The business becomes a mirror. Sooner or later, it reflects everything you haven’t yet had time to look at.
Part of this work is also about story: helping founders and creatives get clear on their own why, distil their journey, and find a way to talk about themselves publicly that feels true rather than performed. That clarity is what builds a personal brand with real impact, because it’s rooted in something honest.
Alongside training as a psychotherapist, I founded BALANCE, now the UK’s leading wellness magazine, from nothing — the training itself part of the spark. Over the years I interviewed everyone from leading psychologists to household names, built teams, made decisions under real pressure, and grew it into a multi-million-pound business. I understand these worlds from the inside, not only as a clinician looking in, but as someone who has lived it.
I’ve spoken about this work on Secret Leaders, talking openly with founders about the psychology behind building something meaningful, and what it actually costs, personally, to do it.
Whether we’re working through a specific decision, a pattern that keeps repeating, or the quieter question of who you’re becoming as you build something, the aim is the same as it is in therapy: to understand yourself deeply enough that clarity, and better decisions, become possible.
Sessions are available on a flexible basis.
Where this can help:
Founders and leaders navigating growth, pressure and identity, as work and self become intertwined.
Creatives and writers working out what they actually want to make, and why.
Executives and public-facing professionals preparing for high-stakes moments, drawing on visualisation and performance psychology alongside deeper psychological work.
People close to burnout, learning to build something sustainable rather than just surviving it.
Anyone questioning their purpose, direction or next chapter.
Navigating self-confidence, perfectionism and imposter syndrome.

“Working with Sophie has been life changing. She's coached me through personal rebranding; career transitions; burnout recovery and marketing planning. Sophie inspires honest reflection. Her holistic toolkit is an unusual mix of business savviness and psychology. I attribute my growth this year to having this incredible human as my coach and confidante. Every awesome leader needs you in their lives”

“Of all the things I’ve done to invest in myself, this has to be the best. I took more away from one session with Sophie about the direction I want to go in than anything else I have tried. It’s clear she’s got a strong psychological underpinning to her work and I came away with deeper insight and a tangible action plan when it comes to next steps and building out my proposition. Thank you Sophie!”
